God’s Dream

God’s dream is that we immerse ourselves in Him both individually and communally, to faithfully interpret and live out the story of his work in the world as we are led by His own Spirit.
A loving God who wishes to share his love
In salvation history, God is portrayed as a loving God. Father, Son and Holy Spirit who lives in a perfect eternal harmony of love. At a certain point, they wanted this love to be shared, and so, they created all that exists. This triune God created us (humanity) as the peak of creation and in his own image. We were given a unique ability: that of entering into communion with each other and with Him. God gave us also a specific mission: to be His image on Earth and to care for his creation as his representatives.
God’s dream for us at the moment of creation was that we love and serve him freely: to find joy and purpose in the tasks he entrusts to each one of us and to live in peace and unity with Him and with each other.

Humanity disobeyed, but God’s dream remains unchanged
When humanity disobeyed this mission and rejected God’s friendship, evil and death entered creation. Humankind became caught in a tension between ‘living according to God’s image’ and ‘living according to the world’. However, God did not abandon us to the domain of death. He came in mercy to the aid of all, so that those who seek might Him.
God’s dream for his creation remained unchanged. He called a family who became a nation to receive his blessings. In return, they were called to be the means through which humanity be blessed. This began with a childless couple, Abraham and Sarah, to whom God promised children, that becomes a nation. This nation, the Israelites, then became enslaved in Egypt for 400 years. God came to their rescue through Moses by a historical event called the Exodus, who brought the Israelites to the land promised to Abraham. There they settled and started building a nation according to God’s dream. A nation that worships God, and promotes justice and mercy to all, especially to the poor and the oppressed.
Eventually, they began to disregard justice and mercy and rejected God’s prophets. Consequently, God sent them into exile in Babylon, where they once again became captives as they had been in Egypt. But even then, God did not abandon his dream.
He kept offering covenants to his people, and through the prophets taught them to always look forward to salvation. Eventually, he brought them back to their land. However, they were not free like before, since they lived in subservience to other peoples.
The fulfilment of his dream: God becoming man

But there was a hidden treasure in God’s dream. Something no one anticipated. That of Him living among his people! So, God the Father, through the Holy Spirit, gave us Jesus Christ as our Lord and Redeemer. A God in the flesh that lived among us!
While living amongst us, he showed compassion to the children, the poor, the sick and the sinners. He became a neighbour to the oppressed and the afflicted. He announced to the world that God is a Father and that cares for us as his sons and daughters. He proclaimed good news for the poor and freedom for the captive.
To affirm his gospel, he healed the sick and raised the dead. He chose a group of disciples and invited them to follow him to discover the dream of God. Ultimately, he was arrested and executed. This might have appeared to be the definitive victory of evil and death over the Dream of God. But this was not the end! Jesus was raised from the dead. In doing so, he proved to all that not even sin and death had no power over God’s Dream! After his resurrection, Jesus joined the Father in heaven and left us under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. In this way, God’s Dream will keep living in us and through us!
God’s Dream still unfolding through us
As we look around, we see evidence that God’s dream has not yet fully completed. Sin and death still have a grip on us. We still need to choose between ‘God’ and ‘the World’.
The good news is that even if we choose the world and sin, through Christ, we can always find forgiveness. We can always turn back to God.
Thus, following the example of Christ, we are called to keep fulfilling God’s Dream by allowing ourselves to be guided by the Holy Spirit in finding the will of the Father in everything, till one day, we will fulfil God’s ultimate dream: that of being one in him through love for eternity.
