Taking Care of the Temple of the Spirit

In order to live God’s dream to the full, we also need to care of the Temple of the Spirit (see, 1 Corinthians 6:19): one’s physical body. We need to take care of it since it belongs to God: “You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So, you must honour God with your body” (see 1 Corinthians 6:19-20). We need to take care of it since there will be a time when “the Spirit is willing, but the flesh [will be] weak.” (see Matthew 26:41). We need to take care of it since this body is the only one we have. This point might sound silly, but sometimes we live as if we have bodies to spare. When this one is worn out, we don’t have a replacement until the day of resurrection!

Moreover, poor discipline concerning our body is a bad witness. It’s hard to tell people to be disciplined in their faith and prayer when they can look at us and see we are undisciplined in exercise and eating. A lack of effort in one area of life is often indicative of problems in other areas. Moreover, better health translates into more energy to live God’s Dream!

Taking all this into consideration, let us now acknowledge the state of our health and plan on how I might better take care of this temple that God has entrusted me.

Balance: How is my daily routine? Is there a balanced life, with specific time for myself, God, my family and the community?  Am I taking moments of rest during the week, and extended ones during the year?

Diet: Do you have a healthy relationship with food and drink? What might be improved? Who can help you?

Exercise: How is your exercise regime? Who might help you further improve your performance?
